Lunark Looks To Classic 2D Cinematic Platformers For Inspiration On Kickstarter

Added: 15.02.2019 18:00 | 1 views | 0 comments

We're getting flashbacks.
Lots of lovely Kickstarter news today! Lunark comes from Canari Games, a one-man team consisting of Johan Vinet, and he hopes to bring his game to Switch. It launched on Kickstarter a little while back, but we’ve only just caught it, and we have to say it looks rather nice.
Self-described as a ‘wild adventure set in the midst of a rebellion against a totalitarian regime’, it owes a lot to the classic 1992 game , as you can see from the trailer. This means there’ll be plenty of running, jumping, ledge-grabbing and hauling yourself up, plus a curious mixture of natural imagery mixed with alien architecture and monolithic technology. Vinet namechecks both Flashback and in the blurb of his Kickstarter pitch and is recreating the rotoscoped charm of his influences.

Minesweeper Genius Brings The Classic Computer Game To Switch, But With A Twist

Added: 12.02.2019 16:15 | 0 views | 0 comments

And it's out today.
is making its explosive debut on consoles today, blasting down the Switch eShop with the classic gameplay you'd expect from any Minesweeper-inspired release.
A modern take on the classic game of logic, Minesweeper Genius has players sweeping their way through more than 130 levels, 55 of which are "extra-difficult" stages for any Minesweeper experts lurking around. As you can see, though, this isn't your usual game of Minesweeper; instead, you'll be moving an alien-cloned Aristotle around the grid (we're not sure why, either), planting flags and using special tiles to work your way around each level.

Hardware Review: 16Bit Pocket MD - An Unexpectedly Decent Portable Mega Drive

Added: 08.02.2019 12:00 | 2 views | 0 comments

Time to put that Sega Nomad into storage?
This year, Sega will release the , its own take on the retro console craze which Nintendo has done rather well out of in recent years with the and Classic Editions. However, it's not the first time that the SNES rival has been resurrected using modern technology; in fact, we've been seeing clones of the Mega Drive / Genesis for the past decade, the vast majority of which have been . Plagued by poor emulation, terrible controls and hopelessly inaccurate sound replication, these devices have been huge disappointments – and the ones which carry Sega's official blessing haven't been any better either, often exhibiting the same issues because they're based on largely the same 'system on a chip' tech.
When news hit our ears that Japanese company Columbus Circle – – was about to release its own portable Mega Drive clone, we had little reason to suspect it would change this sorrowful tradition. Nonetheless, we duly ordered one – mostly out of morbid curiosity – and we've been pleasantly surprised. Not only does the unit come with a good screen that really makes the pixels stand out (although viewing angles aren't brilliant and some games appear slightly stretched), it also has a fantastic rolling D-pad and a six button setup which means you can play games like Super Street Fighter II perfectly (in case you were wondering, it works fine with games like and , both of which have issues with the official six-button controller on original hardware). It's also comfortable to use for prolonged periods and is highly portable. Oh, and Mega Everdrive carts work on it, if you're into that kind of jazz.
