Jaw-dropping gallery from real world iPhone 12 Pro tests

It's all very well Apple stepping on stage and showing off some curated photos taken by their latest camera phones, but in this case we have a third party and a pro photographer taking the iPhone 12 Pro out into the wilds - and I mean wilds. Snow, ice, rain, rocks... Some of the shots he achieved with a phone camera have to be seen to be believed and I love the way he talks about how he got each shot and which phone camera features were needed. Well worth 10 minutes of your time to read through.

The phablet industry swivels slightly, no more Samsung Galaxy Notes

Added: 23.11.2020 9:59 | 0 views | 0 comments

Some big news for the mobile world generally, if true (it does tie into what we've heard) - Samsung's Galaxy Note phones/phablets are no more. In that there will never be another beyond this year's Note 20 Ultra. The original 2012 Note was credited with sparking the trend towards the relatively large screened smartphones of today, with a 4:3 5.3" display that's still sizeable in late 2020. Since then phones have moved to 16:9 and 20:9 with diagonals up to 6.7" - in the AAWP world we had the Lumia 1520 at 6", of course, also still a very decent piece of hardware.
But the notable (pun alert) thing here is that the Galaxy Note also introduced the 'S-pen', an active stylus with which one could take notes, create little works of art, select image areas, and so on. Other manufacturers have tried to ape this, usually half heartedly, with the result that if you need a device with a stylus then the Samsung Galaxy Note series was it. From 2021 onwards, the Note series is being discontinued but the S-Pen will be added to the Samsung's (also) giant folding series, the Z Fold 3 being the first to support the pen and also come with integral storage. Plus S-Pen support (presumably you'd keep it in a pocket!) is being added to the 'S' series of flagships, starting with the Galaxy S21 in January, just six weeks away.

Review: Days Gone - PS4 | Pure PlayStation

Added: 23.11.2020 5:31 | 2 views | 0 comments

Pure PlayStation: I was a little worried about Days Gone by Bend Studio. The delays, the lack of presence at game shows, and just a failure for Sony to drum up any appropriate hype. At least compared to Horizon Zero Dawn and God of War. Then way too many people freaked out over the official embargo lifting a day before release. It seemed like the PlayStation brand was leaving Days Gone out to die. Luckily, I can tell you those fears are abated. By no means is this title a grand masterpiece in the genre, but it is an intelligent and enjoyable one. And being an open world lover who takes pleasure in collecting and building characters up, I am more than content.
